Old Exe Bridge, a private-enterprise project of one Walter Gervaise. He lived in the 13th century, and he just decided one day to get a bridge built. No doubt he had a good reason – probably to do with the wool trade – and no doubt it would have been worth the effort, which included the construction of 17 arches and a church.
